I made these two cards with one stamp set to play along at Twofer Card challenge. This challenge is fun as you have to think of two different ways to use the same stamp set. For today’s card, I used the Fresh Cut Poppies from The Ton as I wanted to play along at their March Spring challenge too.
For my first card, I tried some water-colouring as I’ve been continuing with my watercolour lessons with Jenna Rainey’s book “Everyday Watercolor”. The book is supposed to teach you to watercolour in 30 days but as I’m not disciplined enough to watercolour everyday, its taking me 6 months! LoL! If you want to see my latest progress click here.
I’m sorry I don’t have a process of my painting but my video set up is still not in place in my new craft room. I hope my written explanations will be enough. I started by stamping the poppies with Momento’s Rose Bud ink and the leaves with Versafine’s Spanish Moss ink. I gave a very light wash of a mixture of Winsor and Newton’s Opera Rose & Scarlet Lake on each petal. I then added a darker version in the places I wanted to add shade. While waiting for it to dry I painted the leaves with a mixture of Sap Green and Vandyke Brown. The middle leaves also had some lemon yellow added to the mixture.
Once the poppies were dry, I accentuated the lines which are already on the stamp, with my Prismacolor pencils. I gave a yellowy wash behind the flowers and splattered some paint once this was dry. The sentiment was stamped with Versafine black ink and I matted this panel, cut with Stamplorations Crazy double running stitched rectangle die, onto a pink card base.
Since my first card was quite long to make, I decided to create a very simple CAS card for my 2nd card. I wanted to join in the fun at AAA Cards challenge which asked us to use only 1/3 of the card. So I masked the bottom 3rd of the card with a large post it and just stamped my poppies and leaves over it. The colouring of the leaves was done very simply with my Spectrum Noir sparkle brush pens and Zig clean color real brushes.
See how it sparkles! I added 2 lines with my Zigs for some detail. For the wavy sentiment, I just twisted it a little before stamping it with Versafine again. I was finished until I remembered that we were supposed to make 2 completely different themes as well for each card so I added the Birthday… Oh well, I hope its different enough!
Thanks for stopping by and I would love to know what you think of my cards. Which is your favourite?
Have a great day!
